The Appeal Of BDSM

Blog By M. Mitera

With many things being overdone, sex these days has begun to change. People are more apt to explore, constantly looking for new ways to enjoy themselves. The media has helped this trend of evolving sex by heavily promoting BSDM (standing for Bondage, Domination, Submission, and Masochism). This practice may seem alien and violent to some, definitely not something many would consider “normal”. But those who are involved with BDSM are able to find a new sense of freedom, independence, and confidence. Historically, those who were interested in BDSM were considered to have a medical illness. Because of the initial impression of pain, people had a negative response. Even though there were those who weren’t feeling the whips and chains idea of sex, curiosity and the primal instincts of humans took over.

We’ve already told you what BDSM stands for. But let’s break it down a little more so you can kind of understand the appeal a little bit more. The B stands for bondage, which involves one partner tying up the other with something like rope, chains, or other restraints. D stands for domination. This means one partner exaggerates the power they have over the other. Domination has a lot to do with the relationship between a slave and a master. S is for submission and sadism. While dominants enjoy having power over others, subs enjoy feeling powerless. In this role, the sub is usually receiving punishments by the dom. Finally, the M is for masochism. This is closely related to sadism except this is the submissive’s enjoyment of the pain and humiliation during play. It’s these aspects that make BDSM so appealing… The shift of power in roles can be a very pleasurable experience.

Practicing BDSM provides a new sense of meaning and independence. It allows people to take on a different persona than the one that they live every day. Those who get turned on by fantasy play will also love trying out BDSM, as it provides a stage to an ever changing performance. Many couples even reported that their feelings of trust and intimacy were deeper after practicing BDSM. By having to put your safety in the hands of another, the relationship grows much stronger.

BDSM allows people to do things that they wouldn’t normally be able to do in a safe environment. The aspect of role playing is extremely appealing to some. Being able to take on a different persona can be a huge turn on for some. It’s important to be open minded if your partner decides to bring this up to you as something that they’re in to. While it may seem a bit intense at first, the experience is one that is definitely worth having. So don’t knock it until you try it! For those interested in getting in to the BDSM scene, Manchester Adult Lifestyles has a ton of BDSM related toys so head on in to the shop and check it out!

Top Three Reasons Women Should Know Self Defense

Blog By M. Mitera

It’s wishful thinking to imagine a world where people don’t have to constantly look over their shoulders to make sure no one is following them. Unfortunately, it is mostly women who deal with the fear of going out in to the world alone. In 2014, the Criminal Victimization Board found that US residents over the age of 12 have experienced 5.4 million violent victimizations. This includes but isn’t limited to rape or sexual assault, simple assault, and aggravated assault. Women need to be more educated in how to protect themselves from an assailant and here are the top three reasons why.

In learning self defense, a woman will be able to not only protect herself but her family if necessary. Although men are supposedly the stronger sex, martial arts such as Bujustu teach those involved to fend of an attacker and then escape, rather than staying to fight. The goal is not to continue the altercation but to get away and find help as soon as possible. Another goal is to potentially disarm an attacker that is carrying a weapon. Most martial arts programs show students how to obtain a weapon from an attacker and use it to their advantage or at least to escape. While learning self defense doesn’t 100% assure your safety, this skill will drastically reduce the chances of you getting hurt or injured if you are attacked.

When learning self-defense, you are also taught discipline. This trait will transfer over to other parts of your life. You will begin to realize that you are a better parent, a better friend, a better worker, etc with this new found calmness. Self-defense has a lot to do with controlling breathing, staying relaxed, and to respond to situations instead of reacting to them. In the year 2018, we are surrounded by instant gratification. Self-defense doesn’t allow for this instant feeling of importance. It teaches patience and diligence, something that isn’t really taught in regular, every day life anymore. Self-defense tactics will not only help to keep you safe but will drastically improve your outlook on life, as you will constantly be working on a process that has no end.

If you’re not convinced to give some self-defense classes just yet, you should also know that learning self-defense can boost confidence. It teaches you that your life matters enough to fight for and so do the lives of your friends and families. Self-defense doesn’t care what gender you are, what your age is, or your physical strength. It will push you to be better than you ever thought you could be and this air of confidence might deter attackers in the first place. But at least you’ll know that you have the ability to defend yourself.

At MALS, we have a wide selection of self defense items available. We take our client’s safety very seriously and since we work with many people who work late in to the night, we want to make sure everyone is okay. If you have any questions about self-defense or want to look at our stock of self-defense items, just swing by the shop and let one of our associates show you! We are open seven days a week, Monday through Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 10am to 9pm, and Sunday from 12am to 6pm!

Self Defense

Ladies, we have all had the unfortunate experience of going to your car at night after work and feeling a little anxious that there’s a creep lurking around the corner. Or even being home alone at night; a prime target for a break-in. Not everyone can or wants to carry a firearm, as they can be expensive and require regular cleanings. There are many self-defense options to make you feel safer and more in control in case you have to face an ugly situation.

Manchester Adult Life Styles believes in keeping you safe no matter the cost. Getting home safely is the #1 goal and we have plenty of products to achieve that.

  • Pepper Spray: We carry a few varieties including a spray, gel and foam.
  • Knuckle Key Chains: These chains are kept on your car keys and they are designed to be worn like a sort of ring to replace the old keys-between-your-knuckles trick. These are sharp, solid metal that will deter any sketchball from messing around.
  • Impact Batons: Impact batons are extendable metal staffs that are designed for personal safety. Our batons range in size from 16” to 21”. For maximum effectiveness, look for self-defense training classes that include batons.
  • Tasers and Stun Guns: A taser is another classic self defense tool that is effective, easy to use and non-lethal by incapacitating your target with an electrical shock. We also carry a “Zap cane” for elderly folks.

Although these products are of high quality and effective, the best practice for your own safety is to find local self-defense courses that teach you how to use these kinds of tools properly. Contact your local police department or self-defense school for information on classes. Here is a great article about prevention and hand-to-hand combat techniques: Basic Self-Defense Moves Anyone Can Do. Come visit Manchester Adult Life Styles today to pick up your newest self-defense tool!
