Intro To Shibari

Blog By M. Mitera

In the year 2018, people aren’t as vanilla as they used to be. With the help of the internet, kinks have made themselves very well known over the years. These days, people aren’t as ashamed to broadcast their preferences as they were before. One of the more commonly found kinks among sexually active individuals is the practice of Japanese rope bondage. This practice is extremely popular in the BDSM communities and is a very connecting experience, bringing the model and the person tying very close together.

Japanese rope bondage is known as “kinbaku” or “shibari”. In the west, the term “shibari” is much more common, although it doesn’t exactly mean the same thing as “kinbaku”. Kinbaku (“tight binding”) carries a traditional Japanese meaning. While on one hand, shibari refers to a generalization of tying, kinbaku refers to tying and binding in a sexual sense. Kinbaku is bondage art, where shibari is technically just tying. Some experts in the BDSM community consider kinbaku to be tying sessions with a strong emotional connection between the rigger and model.

Even though the term “shibari” doesn’t carry the deep meaning with it, the word is becoming more and more popular across the world. Even in Japan, the word shibari is being used more and more to describe the experience of Japanese rope play. However, the word is still considered by some to be a wrong Western Japanism and doesn’t convey the sexual context of kinbaku.

This particular style of bondage pays special attention to the way the rope looks on the model, as well as the position assumed during the tying. Sometimes, uncomfortable positions are tied on purpose to provide an aesthetic look for the person doing the tying. Traditional Japanese bondage uses specific forms and aesthetic rules to spotlight the model’s position. The most important ties in the traditional Japanese bondage play are the Ushiro Takatekote, which is an arm box tie of sorts as well as the Ebi (“shrimp”), which was originally designed as a torture tie.

This kind of play is on the rise and people are becoming more and more apt to trying it. The bond between a model and the person rigging the rope can be so extreme. It is highly recommended that you give this act a try with your partner or even by yourself (there are some wonderful ties that you can do alone that don’t require a partner’s help! These are great for practice!). Be on the lookout for more rope play blogs as we delve deeper in to this amazing act! Thanks for reading!

The Appeal Of BDSM

Blog By M. Mitera

With many things being overdone, sex these days has begun to change. People are more apt to explore, constantly looking for new ways to enjoy themselves. The media has helped this trend of evolving sex by heavily promoting BSDM (standing for Bondage, Domination, Submission, and Masochism). This practice may seem alien and violent to some, definitely not something many would consider “normal”. But those who are involved with BDSM are able to find a new sense of freedom, independence, and confidence. Historically, those who were interested in BDSM were considered to have a medical illness. Because of the initial impression of pain, people had a negative response. Even though there were those who weren’t feeling the whips and chains idea of sex, curiosity and the primal instincts of humans took over.

We’ve already told you what BDSM stands for. But let’s break it down a little more so you can kind of understand the appeal a little bit more. The B stands for bondage, which involves one partner tying up the other with something like rope, chains, or other restraints. D stands for domination. This means one partner exaggerates the power they have over the other. Domination has a lot to do with the relationship between a slave and a master. S is for submission and sadism. While dominants enjoy having power over others, subs enjoy feeling powerless. In this role, the sub is usually receiving punishments by the dom. Finally, the M is for masochism. This is closely related to sadism except this is the submissive’s enjoyment of the pain and humiliation during play. It’s these aspects that make BDSM so appealing… The shift of power in roles can be a very pleasurable experience.

Practicing BDSM provides a new sense of meaning and independence. It allows people to take on a different persona than the one that they live every day. Those who get turned on by fantasy play will also love trying out BDSM, as it provides a stage to an ever changing performance. Many couples even reported that their feelings of trust and intimacy were deeper after practicing BDSM. By having to put your safety in the hands of another, the relationship grows much stronger.

BDSM allows people to do things that they wouldn’t normally be able to do in a safe environment. The aspect of role playing is extremely appealing to some. Being able to take on a different persona can be a huge turn on for some. It’s important to be open minded if your partner decides to bring this up to you as something that they’re in to. While it may seem a bit intense at first, the experience is one that is definitely worth having. So don’t knock it until you try it! For those interested in getting in to the BDSM scene, Manchester Adult Lifestyles has a ton of BDSM related toys so head on in to the shop and check it out!

Pounds Glass by Snoop Dogg

Blog By M. Mitera

By now, almost everyone is familiar with Snoop Dogg, the rapper/actor/activist. He is heavily involved in the glass industry and has made sure to leave his mark. He has been rolling out a line of new glass pieces (five, to be exact). These beauties are inspired by ships and aptly named after them. The line includes pieces for concentrate as well as flower so the line offers something for everyone.

Snoop got in to business with Famous Brandz in order to make these pieces. There are five different styles; the Battleship, Starship, Rocketship, Mothership, and Spaceship. Each piece is hand made and comes with a price tag that will hopefully appeal to consumers of any age. So what’s the difference between the pieces? Let us explain…

The Battleship is great for dry or concentrates. It stands at 12.5″ tall and is available in black, white, clear, and black. The piece delivers smooth hits and has a heavy base, making it great for those who might be slightly clumsy sometimes. With a thick mouthpiece for maximum suction, this piece is sure to steamroll any who are brave enough to give it a whirl.

Out of the Pounds line, the Mothership stands at 13″ tall, the tallest of the five. Built with a barrel and percolator, those who use this dry piece will realize their smoke is much cooler. Because of the way the percolators are set up, the Mothership delivers a smooth experience that is far less harsh on the lungs than other pieces. And just like the Battleship, this piece comes in a variety of colors including white, black, clear, and blue.

Shaped almost exactly like the item it’s named after, the Rocketship is features a sloped in lip at the top. This design allows the user to get the maximum use from the piece without having to worry. The down-stem of the piece is diffused, providing some seriously smooth rips. Take your pick of colors from white, black, clear, or orange!

Not everyone is in the market for a piece that’s over a foot tall and that’s where the Starship comes in. This little ripper is only 6.1″ tall and that makes it perfect for a traveling companion. Made for dry herbs only, the Starship would be a great beginning piece or just something small and light to bring with you on a trip! The Starship, like the others, is available in a plethora of different colors, including purple!

The smallest of the Pounds family is the Spaceship. It’s a whopping 6″ tall and can be bought in green, clear, white, and black. Able to be used for both dry herb and concentrates, the Spaceship features a ruffled percolator. This design breaks down smoke particles and provides the user with a smoother, less hot hit. Definitely great for beginners or someone who simply doesn’t need a whole lot to be happy!

If you’re searching for a Pounds piece, look no further than Manchester Adult Lifestyles. We carry the entire line and can always send out for a custom order if you’re looking for one specific color. These American made, hand blown pieces are sure to make an excellent addition to your current glass collection! Stop by and check them out!
